Industrial Diseases

Even if you’re partly to blame for the accident, you can still sometimes claim from the other party. Call us now to find out more

Industrial disease or illness at work

If you have been exposed to personal injury or an industrial disease due to the presence of certain materials or system of work, you can claim for compensation.

Although asbestosis is the most widely known industrial disease (especially given Northern Ireland's history in the shipbuilding and associated industries), there are many other injuries and diseases caused by being in contact with certain materials, or certain equipment.

As well as diseases that are contracted from asbestos or silica, sometimes a certain system of work or the type of equipment used can lead to permanent injury or illness.

For example, we have claimed successfully for clients who suffer from Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS); originally known as vibration white finger, this type of injury is usually caused by exposure to vibrating hand tools such as drills, chainsaws, pneumatic hammers etc.

Have you been affected by an industrial disease or illness?

If you or a loved one has been affected by an industrial disease or illness, you may be entitled to claim compensation. Even if the company where the exposure happened doesn't exist any more, you can still often make a claim.

There are various time limits in relation to making a clam for an industrial disease or illness, and the date of the initial diagnosis of that illness is very important.

Call us now or request a callback from a qualified claims solicitor for more information and advice on whether you may be able to make a claim.

Funding Your Case

Legal Aid is available for many types of claim. We can advise you on your potential eligibility for Legal Aid when we have an initial discussion with you.

We also offer a fixed fee service for the initial stages of your case, up to the point that the potential defendant makes a decision on liability.

For industrial disease cases, our initial fee is £300 + VAT. We will also have to obtain medical evidence to demonstrate that you are suffering from a compensatable disease or illness. The costs of this vary depending on the type of illness that you have developed. We can give you more information about this when we speak to you initially.

We offer flexible payment options to ensure that you can avoid the need to make a large payment all at once.
